US to mark anniversary of normalizing ties with Vietnam

    WASHINGTON, July 6 (Xinhuanet) -- US President George W. Bush has designated Deputy Secretary of Veteran Affairs Gordon Mansfield to lead the US delegation to attend the 10th anniversary of the normalization of US-Vietnam relations in Hanoi, Vietnam on July 12, the White House said Wednesday.

    US ambassador to Vietnam Michael Marine will also be a member of the delegation, the White House said.

    Bush has also announced that he will visit Vietnam next year while attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

    Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai visited the White Houselast month and he was the first Vietnamese prime minister to visit Washington since the end of the Vietnam war 30 years ago. Enditem
