MOSCOW, July 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Several gunmen involved in a terrorist action against Russian interior troops on July 1 and a blast at a police post in Makhachkala was killed in the city, capital of Gagestan, on Wednesday, Russia's Deputy Interior Minister Andrei Novikov said.

Russia's law enforcement agencies have enough information on many other criminal groups operating in Dagestan, the Itar-Tass news agency quoted the deputy minister as saying.

Novikov said that such operations aimed at wiping out terrorists in the southern republic within the next few days in order to resume stable situation there.

The deputy interior minister arrived in Makhachkala with a group of Interior Ministry staffers to help local police conduct anti-terrorist operations.

Over the past week, there were two terrorist explosions in Makhachkala: Two killed in a blast at a police post in the city on Tuesday; 11 interior troops killed and more than 20 people wounded in a major terrorist attack in central Makhachkala on July 1.

According to official figures, at least 30 police officers have been killed this year and no less than 40 injured in bombings and shootings in the Dagestan republic in the North Caucasus, most of them in Makhachkala.

The city has earned the nickname "explosion city" in some Russian media. Enditem
