French President pledges "Unforgetable Games" in 2012

    SINGAPORE, July 6 (Xinhuanet)-- French president Jacques Chirac said on Wednesday that Paris is committed to offering an unforgettable Olympics and Paralympics in 2012.

    "The heart of Paris and the heart of France are beating in unison in the hope of becoming the Olympic ground in 2012," he told the 117th session of the International Olympic Committee.

    He also pledged the total support of the government and the public to the city's bid

    "The Paris bid is a bid by France," he said. "We are united behind a collective ethical and forward-looking project combining innovation with respect for the environment, "he said.

    Chirac, who himself has got involved in Paris' previous bids, expressed the strong desire of France to host the Games.

    "Some of you may remember that I had the honor of presenting Paris's bid to you in 1986 in Lausanne. Today it is with emotion, and with passion, that I lay before you France's hope and ambitionto organise the Games of the 30th Olympiad in Paris in 2012."

    Paris is the first candidate city to make presentation to the IOC members, who will cast their votes late in the day.

    New Yook, Moscow, London and Madrid are the other four candidate cities. Enditem
