Indian PM condemns terrorist attack in Ayodhya
www.chinaview.cn 2005-07-05 20:06:29

NEW DELHI, July 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Ayodhya, and said that his Government resolve to deal firmly with all such acts of terrorism which are a threat to India's security and polity.

Describing the attack as unfortunate, Singh re-reaffirmed the country's resolve not to allow terrorist elements to succeed in their nefarious designs.

"The prime minister said particular attention has been drawn toward maintaining communal harmony, peace and public order, a Press Trust of India (PTI) report quoted PM's Media Advisor Sanjaya Baru as saying.

Meanwhile, the two Communist Parties of India, which are extending outside support to the Congress-led coalition government also condemned the terrorist attack in Ayodhya and urged the central government to probe the matter with full fairness.

"The attack was clearly designed to inflame communal passions. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) appeals to the people not to fall prey to any rumour mongering and to maintain peace and communal harmony," a CPI (M) press statement said on Tuesday.

Echoing similar views, the Communist Party of India, in a statement issued here Tuesday, appealed to people not to fall prey to the provocation and maintain harmony and peace.

However, principal opposition party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while condemning the attack, has called for a nation-wide protest against the militant attack.

"Ram Janmabhoomi has been a very sacred place for the people of the country and the response to the attack over it should also be equally fitting," PTI quoted the BJP President L K Advani from Guwahati as saying.

Earlier in the day, in one of the most daring act of breach of security, five armed militants stormed into the Babri-Masjid-Ram Janambhumi complex in Ayodhya. However, they were immediately challenged by the security forces deployed there. In the ensuing gun-battle, all five terrorist were killed, while the driver of the vehicle in which the militants drove in the complex was captured. Three security force personnel were also injured in the gun-battle. Enditem
