MOSCOW, July 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday that Moscow stands for a comprehensive reform of the United Nations.
"Russia thinks that the UN reform must include all the fields of the organization's activities," Lavrov told a press conference.
He said the UN reform is a matter of the efficient settlement of crises and conflicts and the UN Charter's clauses on preventive measures, including the use of force.
"Russia wants the UN Charter to stipulate responses to classic and new threats, including terrorism," the Interfax quoted Lavrov as saying.
Russia favors the proposal to set up a UN commission for international development, Lavrov said, adding that "larger assistance to development is very important."
Lavrov also pointed out the necessity of renewing the UN's human rights efforts and retaining the principle of the world body's universality. Enditem |
