GAZA, July 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Chief of the ruling Fatah movement Farouk Al Kadoumy revealed that he is planning to return and settle in the Gaza Strip right after the Israeli pullout, a Palestinian website said Saturday.
"If the Israeli army completely withdraws from the Gaza Strip, I will get back there for good, but I would never accept any Israeli army or Jewish settlers' presence," Kadoumy was quoted by Palestine Press as saying.
Kadoumy, who is based in Tunis, has refused to return to the Palestinian territories due to the Israeli occupation.
He is currently attending the three-day Fatah central committee meeting started Thursday in the Jordanian capital of Amman.
The meeting is the first of its kind that was held outside the Palestinian territories since the establishment of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) in 1994.
Sources close to the meeting said Fatah central committee was discussing the issues of appointing a deputy to Abbas and forming a Palestinian national unity government.
Kadoumy is widely considered a suitable candidate for the deputy.
With Regard to the control of the borders after the Israeli withdrawal, Kadoumy said the Palestinians have no objection to a joint Egyptian-Palestinian control of the Gaza Strip borders.
"Fatah movement accepts a full coordination and cooperation with our Egyptian brothers in controlling the borders as well as training our police and security officers after the withdrawal," said Kadoumy. Enditem |
