RIO DE JANEIRO, July 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Gustavo Kuerten was named again by captain Fernando Meligeni on Friday in the Brazilian squad for the Davis Cup series against Dutch Antilles in Group 2 semifinals of the American zone.
Ricardo Mello, Flavio Saretta, Andre Sa and young recruiter Ricardo Hocevar will complete the roster for the games slated for August 15-17 at an indoors clay court in the southern city of Joinville.
The former world's number-one Kuerten had left the Brazilian Davis Cup team last year in protest against the previous administration of the Brazilian Tennis Confederation (CBT).
Kuerten's decision was followed by bad results of the national team who lost several series and fell to a lower division of the Davis Cup.
With Kuerten's return to the Brazilian team, Meligeni on Friday read a letter from the 28-year-old player.
"It feels so good to be with the team again. Also I'm very happy to play a Davis Cup series," said the letter. "As the first step, We're going to try to raise our tennis and move on to the second division." Enditem |
