Palestinian militants shell Gaza settlements
www.chinaview.cn 2005-06-30 21:45:01

GAZA, June 30 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian militants said they fired homemade rockets at an Israeli settlement in the Gaza Strip Thursday morning.

Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, an armed wing of the Islamic Hamas group said in a leaflet that "a Qassam rocket was fired and exploded inside the Jewish settlement of Naveh Dekalim."

In the meantime, Israel Radio reported an explosion in the Naveh Dekalim settlement caused no injuries, but it stopped short of mentioning if there was any property damage.

The brigades intensified attacks at the Gaza settlements Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, claiming responsibility for launching over 10 homemade rockets at the settlements of Gadid, Neveh Dekalim, Nitzir Hazani and Kasovem.

It said the attacks were in response to settlers' actions in the al-Mawasi area west of the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Youn is on Wednesday when the settlers occupied Palestinians' houses and attacked a clinic.

The latest attacks came just six weeks before Israel is due to implement its unilateral disengagement plan under which 21 Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip and four in the northern West Bank will be evacuated.

Israel has threatened to harshly respond to the militants' attacks including staging air strikes to prevent its planned Gaza pullout from coming under fire. Enditem
