LONDON, June 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Andy Roddick survived
a high-velocity five-setter with Sebastien Grosjean, advancing to the Wimbledon
semi-finals for the third successive year with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win on
Wednesday.
The American, seeded the second, now stands just one
match awayfrom a possible re-match with reigning champion Roger Federer, butsaid
that "there's still a long way to go."
Roddick, unbeaten on grass this year, was outplayed
in the spinand slice department by Grosjean, whom he had beaten in their lastsix
encounters, in the first set of their see-saw Centre Court duel.
It was the first set the talented Marseillais had won
in four matches against 22-year-old Roddick on grass.
Roddick, runner-up to Federer last year, clicked his
140mph serves into gear in the second and third sets but Grosjean's sporadic
brilliance continued to trouble him and the Frenchman dominated the fourth set.
The psychological edge Roddick holds over him told in
the decider, however. He immediately broke 3-0 clear and nervelessly wrapped up
his second five-set victory of the tournament.
Roddick will face Sweden's Thomas Johansson in the
last four. The 2002 Australian Open champion and 12th seed beat David Nalbandian
of Argentina 7-6 6-2 6-2 to become the first Swede since Stefan Edberg in 1993
to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals.
Swiss top seed Federer, who smothered the monstrous
forehand ofChilean Fernando Gonzalez in a 7-5 6-2 7-6 win on Wednesday, will
face Hewitt in the semi-finals after the Australian third seed defeat Spaniard
Feliciano Lopez 7-5 6-4 7-6 in his quarter-final on Centre Court.
