WASHINGTON, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The US Capitol and the White House were briefly evacuated Wednesday after a small plane entered restricted airspace over the capital, the second such incident in less than two months.
Senators attending a session at the Capitol were asked to evacuate after the reported incursion of an unidentified plane. Atthe White House, President George W. Bush was moved to a safer location and staff were hustled out of the west wing.
The evacuation order was called off a few minutes later and the Senators went back to their session.
The private turboprop was intercepted by fighter jets and landed at Winchester, Virginia.
The Capitol and White House were evacuated on May 11 after a small Cessna 150 aircraft entered the restricted security zone over Washington. People at several other government buildings nearthe White House were also ordered to evacuate in the scare.
It turned out that the Cessna was en route from Pennsylvania to an air show in North Carolina when it breached the security zone.
The US Federal Aviation Administration later revoked the license of the Cessna aircraft for violating the restricted airspace around the nation's capital, the first time a pilot's license was revoked for such a violation. Enditem |
