SANAA, June 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Iraq and
Iran held a meeting here on Wednesday morning on the sidelines of the 32nd
session of the foreign ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference
(OIC).
The foreign ministers discussed the current situation in Iraq and
highlighted the need to restore order and stability in the conflict-ridden
country.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Abdel Hamid Qassem, Egypt's ambassador to Saudi Arabia
and its permanent delegate to the OIC, underscored the importance of the OIC
ministerial meeting which kicked off in the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Tuesday.
He said the Sanaa meeting came at an important time in the Islamic nations'
history, adding that foreign ministers focused on restructuring of the OIC so as
to make it play its role at this important stage more effectively.
Egypt supports the restructure of the organization, Qassem added.
The three-day meeting is also expected to highlight the creation of an
emergency fund to cope with disasters like last year's tsunami and the UN
reforms, especially the Muslim countries' aspirations for a share in the
powerful UN Security Council.
Foreign ministers of some 56 Muslim states as well as representatives from
a number of regional and international organizations have attended the meeting.
