Zambian president ready to challenge impeachment
www.chinaview.cn 2005-06-28 19:37:58

LUSAKA, June 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Zambian president Levy Mwanawasa said he was ready to meet those agitating for his impeachment in parliament, the official Zambia News Agency reported Tuesday.

He was reacting to reports that some politicians were planning an impeachment against him when parliament resumes sitting next month.

The ruling Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) national secretary Vernon Mwaanga warned on Monday the party would not allow the impeachment to proceed, according to the Tuesday's DailyMail.

He said people should realize that impeachment was a serious act which could only be used in extreme and severe circumstances which did not exist at the moment.

"I hope those advocating the impeachment are not serious," Mwaanga said.

He said the MMD would use its majority in the House to snuff out the planned impeachment if it would really surface. Enditem
