BEIJING, June 27 -- Taiwan pop star, Jay Chow's film "Initial D" has reached 7 million Yuan at box office takings in its opening day across China. This is the highest record in the mainland this year.

The publisher said fifteen theaters respectively received 100 thousand Yuan at the box office at its premiere across China.

Theaters alone in Guangdong province pocketed 1.4 million Yuan.

It predicts that the gross box office takings will reach 40 million Yuan at the weekend.

The movie title "Initial D" is a term well known to car racing fans, which means, "Master car racer".

This 12 million US dollar film is based on the Japanese comic book of same name, which tells the story of fierce competitions between groups of young racers. Enditem
