Asked whether the newly engaged couple would be hearing the patter of tiny feet, Cruise smiled and said "yes".

    But he told People magazine that before things move forward "we would have to talk to our families about it".

    As the pair's whirlwind romance continues at breakneck speed, the actor has reportedly banned almost all print media from the New York premiere of his new movie tonight.

    Having been doused in water on the red carpet in London, he appears to be taking no chances.

    Every camera crew in attendance is expected to be carefully vetted to ensure no fake microphones are brandished, or water squirted.

    Cruise proposed to Holmes last week in Paris. The big night was carefully planned and he contacted Paris city hall several days in advance to arrange an after-hours visit to the Eiffel Tower, he told People.
