BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhuanet) -- The per capita gross
domestic product (GDP) of the Chinese capital city of Beijing reached 4,300 US
dollars in 2004, up 11 percent from 2003, according to the National Bureau of
Statistics.
The bureau said Beijing citizens'
income has reached the same level as that in medium-developed countries and
regions.
It said the city's per capita GDP is expected to
exceed 6,000 dollars in the year 2008, indicating that the city has entered a
rapid development era.
According to the Beijing International Investment and
Financing Exhibition held here on Tuesday, finance has become Beijing's pillar
industry. Last year, the added value of the finance and insurance sector hit
59.86 billion yuan (7.24 billion dollars), up 5.4 percent on a yearly basis.
