Beijing rated as world 19th most expensive city

    BEIJING, June 21 -- Beijing has come in 19th on a list ranking the world's costliest cities. Other Chinese cities on the list include Shanghai, which is 30th, and Hong Kong, which made the top 10 by placing 9th.

    According to the study by Mercer Human Resource Consulting, Tokyo remains the world's most expensive city, while fellow Japanese metropolis Osaka has risen to second place. The British capital of London lost ground this year, slipping to third.

    The report, released in London, ranked cities based on the comparative cost of more than 200 items including housing, public and private transport, food, clothing and entertainment.

    Other cities in the top ten include Moscow, Seoul, and Geneva. Enditem
