Kuwait pledges support to Iraq's reconstruction

    KUWAIT CITY, June 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Kuwait has pledged support to Iraq's reconstruction especially in the oil and electricity sectors, Kuwaiti Minister of Energy Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said on Sunday.

    According to the official Kuwait News Agency, Sheikh Ahmad said after a meeting with his visiting Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim Bahr al-Uloum that Kuwait has agreed to offer grants to Iraq to boost the country's reconstruction and development especially in the oil,transport, electricity and health sectors.

    The two sides discussed the role of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) in helping Iraq cope with electrical shortage through the rehabilitation and construction of power stations, Sheikh Ahmad said.

    Talks also covered providing Iraq with Kuwaiti gasoline, diesel and petroleum derivatives, he added.

    The Iraqi oil minister is accompanying Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, who is currently on a two-day official visit toKuwait ahead of an international conference on Iraq's reconstruction due to be held in Brussels on Wednesday.

    Earlier in the day, Kuwaiti Premier Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah held talks with Jaafari over bilateral cooperation and relations.

    Arriving here on Saturday, Jaafari is also scheduled to visit London, Brussels and Washington. Enditem
