Nigeria draws with Angola in World Cup qualifier
www.chinaview.cn 2005-06-19 08:16:59

LAGOS, June 18 (Xinhuanet) -- It's deemed as a do-or-die battle for next year's World Cup finals in Germany but Nigeria's Super Eagles disappointed their fans again Saturday after they drew 1-1 with rival Angolans.

The Eagles smiled in the fifth minute when their captain Jay Jay Okocha scored from a free kick from almost 25 meters at the Sani Abacha stadium in the ancient Nigerian city of Kano.

The Angolans, however, then gradually took control of the midfield and their efforts yielded in the second-half with midfielder Paulo Figuereido scoring the equalizing goal.

Both teams have 15 points now from eight matches but the Angolans are in an advantage position after they won the first legtie 1-0 last year in Luanda. Yet they still have two matches to go for the sole ticket for the 2006 World Cup. Enditem
