US military jet crashes in residential area

    LOS ANGELES, June 15 (Xinhuanet) -- A military aircraft plunged Wednesday into a residential area in western US, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.

    The fighter jet crashed to a neighborhood in Yuma, Arizona, at about 2:30 p.m. (local time), authorities said.

    Local police, fire and military personnel were responding to the crash and the area was being evacuated.

    A local media report said the pilot of the jet had ejected fromthe aircraft.

    A spokesman for the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Arizona, was quoted by a local media as saying that the Harrier jet that crashed had been operating from the base, about 257 km southwest of Phoenix, capital of Arizona. Enditem
