White House urges Senate to confirm Bolton

WASHINGTON, June 13 (Xinhuanet) -- The White House renewed calls on Monday for the Democrats in the Senate to quickly confirm the nomination of John Bolton to be the next US ambassador to the United Nations.

"We just continue to urge the Senate to move forward quickly. Unfortunately, you have Democrats still playing stall tactics withthis nomination. They have decided to engage in politics, and thatis unfortunate," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said at a briefing.

"The American people, I think, want to see reform at the United Nations, and that's why we need to get John Bolton confirmed, so that he can get about working on those important efforts," he said.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has said that he believed theSenate would vote this week on John Bolton's nomination. However, the Democrats vowed to continue fighting it and demanded more information on Bolton.

Bolton has been criticized for trying to shape intelligence estimates on Cuba, Syria and other issues to reflect his own viewsand having a history of berating people he worked with and of seeking to remove those who disagree with him. Enditem
