12 (Xinhuanet) -- At least 15 people, including two children, were injured in
the Grozny-Moscow passenger train accident in the Moscow region on Sunday
morning, spokesman for the Russian Emergencies Ministry, Viktor Beltsov, was
quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency as saying.
The train crash was caused by an explosion, the
Interfax news agency reported, quoting Russian federal security service.
But the Itar-Tass quoted Vice Governor of the Moscow
region Alexei Panteleyev as saying that the derailment of passenger trainwas
caused by a technical malfunction.
Panteleyev said "On the face of it, one can say the
incident cause was a technological emergency, which broke the hookup unit
between the locomotive and the train."
The accident occurred at about 7:00 a.m. Moscow time
(0300 GMT)on Sunday, when the passenger train was traveling from the
Chechenrepublic capital Grozny to Moscow. Five cars jumped the tracks after the
train's third car detached from its second car, the Interfax quoted officials in
the Emergencies Ministry's branch forthe Moscow region as saying.
A medical team have been sent to the scene, where
Emergencies Ministry officials are working.
As many as 350 passengers, who were in the
Grozny-Moscow train,have boarded another Moscow-bound train, which is expected
to arrive at the Paveletsky train station, Beltosv told Interfax.
The government of Chechnya is to send a commission to
Moscow tohelp investigate the cause of the derailment, said Chechen Prime
Minister Sergei Abramov.
The accident will not affect the volume of passenger
traffic onthe Grozny-Moscow route, he said. Enditem |
