NEW DELHI, June 11 (Xinhuanet) -- The death toll in the heat wave sweeping
west India's Orissa Pradesh reached 52 Saturday when theday's highest
temperature topped 48 degrees Celsius, Indo-Asian News Service reported.
In the past some three months by Saturday, 52 died of sunstroke,most of whom were daily wagers,
according to a local official.
Temperatures in the western districts of the pradesh, including Sambalpur,
Bolangir and Jharsuguda, were above 45 degrees Celsius while the capital
Bhubaneswar recorded 44.6 degrees Celsius.
Struggling the hottest months of the year, India is looking forward for the
coming monsoon to bring rains and release heat. Enditem |
