BAGHDAD, June 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Two US Marines were killed in a roadside bomb attack which occurred near their vehicle west of Baghdad, the US military said on Saturday.

"Two Marines assigned to Regimental Combat Team-8, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, were killed Friday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle," the military said in a statement.

The names of the two Marines were withheld pending notification of next-of-kin, added the statement.

The attack took place near the flashpoint town of Saqlawiyah, west of Fallujah, in the restive Anbar province, it said.

Over 1,690 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the US-ledinvasion in March 2003. Enditem
