UNITED NATIONS, June 10 (Xinhuanet) -- UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan decided to send a UN verification team back to Lebanon to see if Syrian intelligence agents are still in the country, UN spokesman Fred Eckhard said Friday.

According to Eckhard, the Secretary-General made the remarks at the monthly lunch with members of the Security Council.

"I intends to send a verification team back to Lebanon, but at this point no date has been set," Annan was quoted as saying.

The Secretary-General told reporters on Thursday that he was considering to send the verification team back to Lebanon because he was receiving reports that Syrian intelligence "elements" may be there.

The UN verification mission, which was dispatched to Lebanon inlate April, is to verify whether there has been a full and complete withdrawal of all Syrian troops, military assets and the intelligence apparatus from Lebanon in keeping with Security Council resolution 1559.

However, it had reported on May 23 that Syria had "fully" withdrawn from its neighbor, in compliance with the resolution. Enditem
