Explosion kills 9 in Shanxi

    TAIYUAN, June 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Nine persons were confirmed dead with 25 others injured in Thursday's explosion in Fenyang City, north China's Shanxi Province, local police said Friday.

    The wounded were still hospitalized, and two of them are seriously injured.

    The blast occurred at 1:09 Thursday afternoon at the home of Zhang Xuequan, a villager in Changninggong village of Fenyang City.Zhang's two-story home collapsed in the explosion, which also demolished 26 nearby houses, involving five families.

    The cause of the blast is under investigation.
