Professor accused of trading exam papers for sex

BEIJING, June 10 -- A Beijing Jiaotong University professor allegedly leaked exam questions and answers to a female applicant of a master's program after she had sex with him.

Police in Beijing's Haidian District on Wednesday confirmed they would investigate, The Beijing News reported yesterday.

The woman has accused the professor of leaking state secrets. Under Chinese law, some exam papers are considered state secrets. In focus were educator Ouyang Lin, 51, and a 26-year-old woman known by the alias A Fang. Ouyang teaches in the Humanities and Social Sciences college. A Fang is studying a further education degree at the university, according to the newspaper.

She did get high marks in the two courses Ouyang allegedly offered the papers and answers, but she failed an English course. So she wasn't enrolled in the master's program.

The report said A Fang began the program in September 2003. She claimed she first consulted Ouyang over academic issues at his office in early November. Later she received his academic help on many occasions.

She reportedly went to Ouyang's campus dorm at noon on December 23. In return for the exam papers, she had sex with the professor, the report said. Later that day, Ouyang allegedly gave her exam papers and some answers for two different subjects.

As she found no answer for one essay, she called Ouyang, who then handwrote key points of the essay and gave it to her several days later.

The newspaper ran a photocopy of the handwritten answer.

The teacher said he first met A Fang in November 2003. Ouyang claimed she visited his dorm several times, including on December 23, but they didn't have sex.

Ouyang said she may have bought the exam papers and answers from the university's masters recruitment office or stolen them from his office or dorm.

Fang Yuefa, a top official at the graduate school of Beijing Jiaotong, said that they will also investigate, said the newspaper.
