Indian police detain terrorist group head

    NEW DELHI, June 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Delhi police Wednesday detained Jagtar Singh Hawara, chief of Babbar Khalsa International who had escaped from jail last year, and two suspects of cinema blasts in May, also believed to be members of the terrorist group.

    The police caught the three on a new Hyundai Accent car in the Narela Industrial Area, northwest of New Delhi, on early Wednesday morning, The Hinhu reported Thursday.

    The three men fired when the police tried to stop their car andthen they tried to flee on foot, Delhi Police Commissioner K. K. Paul told the press.

    The police found 10.35 kg of explosive, four pistols, 207 live cartridges, three remote-controlled explosive devices and a hand grenade from the car.

    Jagtar Singh Hawara, charged with murdering the former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, had fled from a high-security jail in Chandigarh, capital of west India's Haryana and Punjab pradeshes,in January last year.

    The other two, Jaspal Singh and Vikas Sehgal, were suspects of two cinema blasts in May 22 in Delhi which killed one and injured 60. The former was alleged to mastermind the blasts.

    The police source said the three came to Delhi to collect moneyfrom a dealer and plan to flee to Nepal. Enditem
