Katif in the Gaza Strip. | BEIJING, June 8 -- A Chinese worker was killed
Tuesday afternoon in a Palestinian mortar shell attack on the Jewish settlement
bloc of Gush Katif in the Gaza Strip.
He was
identified as a 45 year old from Jilin province in northeastern China.
Fan Jianmin, counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in
Israel, said the embassy is coordinating with the Israeli government over the
incident.
"We have claimed the body of the victim. Meanwhile,
we are contacting the Israeli state insurance company regarding compensation and
the transfer of the body back to China."
The counsellor also reminded other Chinese workers in
Israel to take good care of themselves.
A Palestinian worker was also killed and six others
wounded in the attack.
Islamic Jihad has claimed responsibility for the
attack, saying it was in retaliation for the killing of one of its commanders in
the West Bank.
