| BAGHDAD, June 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The Iraqi government on Tuesday said no fixed date has been set for the trial of former leader Saddam Hussein.
"A fixed date has not been presented," Laith Kubba, spokesman for Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, told reporters.
He said any decision was up to the Special Tribunal, set up in 2003 to try senior officials of the former regime led by Saddam.
The tribunal "assured me that they have a media official and they wish that information be given by them directly," said Kubba.
The tribunal issued a statement on Monday, saying there was no "precise schedule" for Saddam's trial.
"Any trial date depends on the judges who will consider indictments against the accused after completing their investigations," said the statement.
The Iraqi government had earlier said Saddam could go on trial within two months. Enditem |
