Star Wars movie not a hit in China
www.chinaview.cn 2005-06-08 09:32:49

BEIJING, June 8 -- Star Wars: Episode III -- The Revenge of Sith hasn't created much of frenzy at the box office in China.

Although the final Star Wars movie incorporates the picturesque scenery of Southwest China's Yunnan Province, the film has failed to compete with top Chinese movies, such as Kung Fu Hustle, House of Flying Daggers and A World Without Thieves.

Stars War: Episode III -- The Revenge of Sith made US$3.37 million at the box office in the first week after its nationwide release in China's mainland, reported the China Daily.

However, the Chinese mainland market is not yet a major global venue for Hollywood or other foreign films. Last year, the total box office revenue of the mainland market was US$180 million. Despite the relatively low figure box office revenues increased by 50 percent last year.
