BEIJING, June 8 -- A three-in-one film event will open in Shanghai on June 11. It will feature the 11th Shanghai TV Festival, the Eighth Shanghai International Film Festival and Centenary of Chinese Films.

As one of the most important events of its kind in China, the event will attract many celebrities from home and abroad, including the famous German director Volker Schlondorff and actor Brendan Fraser, who starred in "The Mummy Returns."

A source from the event organizer disclosed that Fraser would not only attend the event, but would also help shoot a film for children while he was in Shanghai. In addition, as a shutterbug, he would also stage a photo exhibition of 55 of his pictures.

Schlondorff will be at the Shanghai premiere of his new film "The Ninth Day." The director is famous for such films as "The Tin Drum."

Other foreign celebrities include Japanese director Yoji Yamada and Korean director Kang Je-gyu.

Hong Kong action movie star Jackie Chan will lead a host of Chinese big names to the event. Zhang Yimou, a prominent director of China, said he would suspend shooting of his new film "Qian Li Zou Dan Qi" (Lonely Ride over a Long Distance) to attend the event. Other celebrity directors and actors will include Jia Zhangke and Wang Xiaoshuai, both directors recently having won awards from international film festivals.
