KABUL, June 7 (Xinhuanet) -- After a weeklong investigation the Afghan government Tuesday blamed Taliban for the deadly bomb attack inside a mosque in southern Kandahar province that left 19 dead and 52 injured.
"Definitely remnants of Taliban, al-Qaida network and their supporters from across the border are behind the heinous crime in Kandahar mosque," Presidential spokesman Jawed Ludin told reporters at a news conference here.
Earlier, Afghan Interior Minister Ali Ahmad Jalali put the attack on foreign enemies and said the suicide attacker was a foreign national but declined to identify his nationality.
"Preliminary investigation indicates that the attacker was not an Afghan," Ludin noted while corroborating Interior Minister's argument.
Kabul police chief Mohammad Akram Khakrizwal was among the victims of the massive explosion that ripped through a mosque in Taliban's former stronghold Kandahar last Wednesday.
Remnants of the former fundamentalist regime have ruled out their involvement in the attack.
Mawlawi Abdul Latif Hakimi claimed to be spokesman for Taliban rejected militants' role in the bloody explosion by saying government circles' internal rivalry could be blamed for the incident. Enditem
