BEIJING, June 7 -- Poland plans to proceed with a referendum on the new
European Union constitution on Oct. 9 despite Dutch and French voters' rejection
of the document last week.
Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski said Monday that the referendum
will take place on October 9th along with Presidential elections to ensure high
turnout.
Meanwhile, Polish Foreign Minister Adam Rotfeld has expressed
dissatisfaction over the postponement of plans for a referendum on the EU
constitution.
Poland was the largest among the 10 newcomers that joined the bloc in May
2004.
