Shanghai stock index slumps below 1,000 points to new low since 1997

    BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhuanet) -- The composite stock index of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the benchmark index which covers yuan-denominated A shares and foreign-currency B shares, dropped to 998.23 points during the morning session on Monday, the lowest level since Feb. 21, 1997. Enditem
