PARIS, June 4 (Xinhuanet) -- The association "Mayors for children"affirmed Saturday at a news conference here that it had collected 11,669 signatures of mayors who are against homosexual marriage inFrance.

According to the spokesman of the association, Frank Meyer, a call was launched to 36,000 mayors in France. They were asked to cross if agree with two cases: "I disapprove any project establishing marriage between people of same sex", "I deny involvement of mayor in this kind of celebration as official."

The association affirmed that one in three mayors made their reply, with only four negative answers.

"The marriage for us is just the engagement between a man and awoman to make a family ... we don't want to see modified what belongs fundamentally to the social construction of our country," the association said one year after the marriage of two men was celebrated by the mayor of their region but later annulled by law.

"If the homosexuals gain the right to marriage, I don't think we can refuse their filiation or adoption," said Meyer, adding "masculinity and feminity are fundamental signs for the psychological development of a child." Enditem
