DPRK accuses Cheney of hindering resumption of six-party talks

กก  PYONGYANG, June 2 (Xinhuanet) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea on Thursday accused US Vice President Dick Cheney of impeding the resumption of the six-party talks and demanded Washington create necessary conditions for the talks to resume.

A spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry told the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) that Cheney's "vituperation" against the supreme headquarters of the DPRK on May 30 once again revealed "his inveterate intention not to recognize the DPRK."

The DPRK has said that the US administration's pressurizing remarks was "intended to create confusion" even after the May 13 bilateral contact in New York, at which Washington formally informed Pyongyang of its will to recognize the DPRK as a sovereign state and not to invade it.

"Cheney's remarks, made at a time when the DPRK-US New York contact has kicked off in the direction of resuming the six-party talks, clearly indicate his inveterate rejection of the political system in the DPRK and his intention to put a brake on the process of the talks," the spokesman said.

"What Cheney uttered at a time when the issue of the six-party talks is high on the agenda is little short of telling the DPRK not to come out for the talks," he stressed.

The United States should clearly know that the DPRK "has never yielded to any pressure", he added.

"If the US has a real intention to peacefully settle the nuclear issue through dialogue, it should retract its remarks such as 'outpost of tyranny' and provide a justification and conditions necessary for the resumption of the talks," the spokesman said. Enditem
