HONG KONG, June 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Donald Tsang announced here on Thursday that he has decided to be a candidate for the post of Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

He made the remarks at a press conference Thursday afternoon.

Tsang also announced his policy blueprint for his next two years if he is elected.

He said the Central People's Government announced early Thursday its decision to accept his resignation from the post of Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR government, which took effect immediately.

Tsang said his decision to run for the Chief Executive election is the most important decision that He has made in his life. "It has not been an easy decision."

He said, born to a humble household, he had been an ordinary student, a junior salesman but he was most fortunate to have the opportunity to join the civil service at an early stage.

He said he felt pride as he was an ordinary man from an ordinary home, "given the opportunity by my country and my community to run for Hong Kong's highest office."

Tsang said he knows the scale of the challenge that lies ahead, adding "I know that I will only be able to meet the challenge if Ican secure the support and understanding of the entire community, and have the confidence of the Central People's Government." Enditem
