JAKARTA, May 31 (Xinhuanet) -- Indonesian Minister of Health Siti Fadilah Supari announced Tuesday that the polio vaccination campaign which started earlier in the day across Greater Jakarta, West Java and Banten would be completed in one week.
Speaking in the West Java capital of Bandung, she said that 6.4million babies in the three provinces would be vaccinated.
A second round of polio vaccinations will be held on June 28, she was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying.
As of May 25, 14 children had contracted polio in Sukabumi and Bogor, both in West Java, and Lebak in Banten.
Polio is an incurable and sometimes fatal virus that usually affects children, causing paralysis and muscular atrophy. Enditem
