Coal mine flooding kills 8 in Fujian

    FUZHOU, May 31 (Xinhuanet) -- By 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, eight miners have been confirmed dead in a coal mine flooding accident that occurred Saturday in Longyan city of east China's Fujian province,said sources with the rescue headquarters.

    The mine flooding trapped 12 miners working underground when it occurred at the Chikeng Colliery of the city Saturday morning. Eight miners were confirmed dead, two others were rescued and another two remained missing by 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, the source said.

    The water level of the flooding in the mine has ebbed to a depth of 183 meters and rescuers are still going all out in the rescue operation. Enditem
