ĦĦMAPUTO, May 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Mozambican President Armando Guebuzaon Sunday urged the Mozambican people to do all in their power to defeat the country's absolute poverty.
Speaking at a rally in Xai-Xai, capital of the southern Mozambican province of Gaza, Guebuza said in order to remove the obstacles that hold back the country's development, the governmentneeded the support of all Mozambicans.
The Mozambicans must also fight to remove the obstacles that get in the way - such as the spirit of apathy and drift, red tape, corruption, crime and endemic diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.
Earlier in the day Guebuza visited the premises of Corridor Sands, the project to mine titanium-bearing mineral sands in the district of Chibuto, in the province.
The Chibuto sands contain the largest known titanium deposit inthe world. The mine could therefore change the face of the district, turning it into one of the country's main poles of development. But this all depends on a guaranteed supply of electricity. Enditem |
