Haitian PM regrets over withdrawal of US embassy staff
www.chinaview.cn 2005-05-28 11:25:51

HAVANA, May 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Haitian Prime Minister Gerard Latortue on Friday expressed his regret over Washington's decision to withdraw embassy staff's relatives and non-essential embassy employees from Haiti, said news from Port-au-Prince, capital of the Caribbean country.

Latortue expressed his regret to US ambassador to Haiti James Foley during a ceremony for the signing of an agreement between Haiti and the European Union on the latter's assistance to Haiti.

The US State Department made the order on Thursday, 24 hours after an unidentified person fired at a US embassy vehicle with three embassy staff onboard.

The embassy said no one was hurt in the attack, and the decision was made on the assessment of the security in Haiti at large instead of one incident. Enditem
