GAZA, May 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), one of the Palestinian armed factions in the Gaza Strip, announced Thursday that it is committed to a conditional calmness or truce with Israel.

The group, which was opposed to an agreement on the truce reached between 13 Palestinian factions and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas during Cairo dialogue in March, made the announcement after a meeting with an Egyptian security delegation on Wednesday in Gaza,

"A PRC delegation met with the Egyptian security delegation, and we agree to be committed to the calmness as long as Israel is also committed," said PRC spokesman Abu Abir.

Abu Abir stressed that in case Israel carries out incursions into the Palestinian cities or targets Palestinian militants, "we will respond in appropriate ways."

An Egyptian delegation, headed by deputy intelligence chief General Mustafa al-Buheiri, is visiting Gaza to mediate dispute between the ruling Fatah and the major militant group Hamas overthe municipal election results.  Enditem
