US closes missions in Indonesia over threat

JAKARTA, May 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The United States is closing all its diplomatic mission offices in Indonesia on Thursday because of security threat, the US Embassy said in a message published by its local website here Wednesday.

The message said that the US government will close its embassy office in Jakarta, the Consulate General and all other US government facilities in Indonesia.

It also warns all American citizens that the terrorist threat in Indonesia remains high.

Attacks can occur at any time and be directed to any location, including those frequented by foreigners as well as the identifiably American and other western facilities or businesses in Indonesia, it said.

The US embassy in Jakarta has been under tight security, which is blocked by cement blocks at the front.

The US has consulates in Surabaya, the capital city of East Java Province, and on the resort island of Bali. There is also a US representative office in Medan, the capital city of North Sumatra Province. Enditem
