GAZA, May 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has secured a Japanese pledge to provide financial support and reconstruction help, a foreign ministry statement said Monday.

The Japanese government made the pledge during Abbas' visit to Japan last week.

Japan has pledged 100 million US dollars in financial aid to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and agreed to help build aseaport in the Gaza Strip and rebuild destroyed infrastructure, the statement said.

A joint Japanese-Palestinian committee will be set up soon to coordinate the assistance, the statement added.  Enditem
