WASHINGTON, May 21 (Xinhuanet) -- US President George W. Bush said on Saturday that he will meet Afghan President Hamid Karzai and hold talks with him at the White House on Monday.
"Afghanistan now has a constitution, an elected President, and its citizens will return to the polls this September to elect provincial councils in the lower house of the National Assembly," Bush said in his weekly radio address.
"We're helping Afghanistan's elected government solidify these democratic gains and deliver real change," Bush said, promising that the United States will help Afghanistan to achieve success.
The White House has said that Karzai's visit will be "an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss the progress in the global war on terrorism, the achievements of the Afghan people in building democracy, and our ongoing cooperation on a range of bilateral, regional and international issues."
Karzai won the first presidential election in Afghanistan last October. The last time Bush's meeting with Karzai was in September2004.
US first lady Laura Bush met Karzai in Kabul when she visited Afghanistan to promote education for women there in late March. Enditem
