CAIRO, May 21 (Xinhuanet) -- A suspected mastermind in a series of attacks that targeted foreign tourists in Cairo has committed suicide while in custody, Egyptian prosecutors said Saturday. Ashraf Saeed Youssef, 27, died Friday in a hospital where he had been treated for self-inflicted injuries, said the officials. Police detained Youssef on April 30, suspecting him of being involved in two waves of attacks in Cairo which killed three foreign tourists and injured dozens of others.
On April 7, an attacker detonated a home-made bombing device in a Bazaar in Cairo, killing himself and three foreign tourists. Some three weeks later, a second wave of attacks took place in which a bomber carried out a suicide mission in downtown Cairo and two women shooters fired at a tourist bus in south Cairo. The three attackers were all killed, but no foreign tourists died in the incidents. Enditem
