BEIJING, May 18 -- Six African counties have agreed to start a new round of talks on June 1st in Nigeria between the Sudanese government and rebels in Sudan's western Darfur region.
Leaders from Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Nigeria, Eritrea and Chad wrapped up a summit on Darfur in the Libyan capital Tripoli early Tuesday.
Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismail told reporters the participating leaders have laid down a clear-cut roadmap to settle the Darfur crisis, asserting the summit reiterated rejections of having non-African forces in Darfur.
Two main Darfur rebel groups, the Sudan Liberation Movement and the Justice and Equality Movement, have chosen to stay away from the summit.
