NEW DELHI, May 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday reiterated that India would not be a source of proliferation of sensitive technologies and would adopt stringent measures to secure these as well as technologies acquired through international collaboration, Indo-Asian News Service reported.

"We will adopt the most stringent measures to safeguard and secure the technologies that we possess, or those that we acquire through international collaboration," the prime minister said while speaking on the occasion of National Technology Day organized by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

"India is conscious of its responsibilities deriving from the possession of advanced technologies, civilian and strategic. We are determined to ensure that these are not used for prohibited activities," he maintained.

As proof of this commitment, Manmohan Singh referred to the passing of the Weapons of Mass Destruction and their Delivery Systems (Prohibition of Unlawful Activities) Bill 2005 in the just concluded parliament session.

"The strict regulation of external transfers and tight controls to prevent internal leakage should give confidence to international suppliers of high technology items that their supplies will remain secure. We see no reason for non-proliferation concerns to be a barrier to high technology trade and commerce with India," he said. Enditem
