MOSCOW, May 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Nine people were killed and 34 others injured in armed clashes on Friday following violent demonstrations in the eastern Uzbekistan city of Andijan, the Russian ITAR-TASS news agency said, quoting a presidential press service from Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan.

Thousands of armed protesters turned the eastern Uzbek city of Andijan into chaos, setting free prisoners from a prison and engaging in clashes with security forces, the ITAR-TASS said.

A suspected suicide bomber was shot dead by securitymen posted at the Israeli Embassy in Tashkent, the Uzbek news agency Fergana said.

In Andijan, an armed group attempted to attack a convoy but was besieged by security forces, it said. Enditem
