ROME, May 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Italian Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini said on Tuesday that Italian troops will be withdrawn from Iraq by February 2006 at the latest.

Speaking at a news conference in Rome, Fini said that accordingto United Nations Resolution 1546, the pullout should take place at the end of 2005.

But the Iraqi government will "probably" ask allied troops to stay for "another month or two and this would take us to January or February 2006," he said.

Italy has more than 3,000 troops serving in Iraq.

Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has said he plans to start withdrawing some troops starting in September providing Italy's allies and the Iraqi government agree. Enditem
